Recent Events

South Market – Sysco GR met with the City Attorney of Miami Beach to advocate for a resolution to Sysco South Florida’s parking violations. In December, the City verbalized an offer to settle 20% of all outstanding fines, saving Sysco approximately $300,000. Following the settlement, Sysco GR will work toward forming a coalition to push for parking reforms for large fleets in Miami Beach.

South Market – Sysco GR briefed the South Market leadership team on upcoming federal funding opportunities for February and March 2025. While these funds cannot be allocated directly to Sysco, GR identified opportunities to collaborate with nonprofits and state/local governments on initiatives such as workforce development, food bank support, and infrastructure projects to alleviate congestion near Sysco facilities.

North Market– Sysco GR met with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey to thank her for her efforts in defeating Proposal No. 5, which would have eliminated the state’s tip credit. Sysco financially supported the Massachusetts Restaurant Association’s campaign, and the measure was rejected by voters 64%-36%. This was a major win for Sysco and its customers.

North Market– Sysco GR representatives met with Governor Josh Shapiro’s advisors and the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA) to discuss workforce development initiatives. These discussions focused on securing future funding and building relationships to support workforce development programs in Pennsylvania.

Federal– Sysco PAC hosted an Insider Virtual Series featuring lawmakers and political professionals from Washington D.C., Florida, and Texas. These virtual events, held ahead of the General Election, engaged 20-40 PAC members per session, provided insights into key political races, and led to the recruitment of 11 new Sysco PAC members.

Thanksgiving Food Drives

South Market:
Sysco South Florida partnered with Florida State Senator Alexis Calatayud for a Thanksgiving food drive in Miami, distributing turkeys to 50 families in need. Senator Calatayud is expected to be a key voice in the Florida Senate on workers’ compensation and industry-related issues.

Sysco and Houston Council Member Mary Nan Huffman distributed 250 turkeys to families at the Spring Branch Family Center. Council Member Huffman represents the GSC on Houston City Council and is a strong supporter of Sysco and the foodservice industry.

The South Texas Region donated hams to Houston Council Member Abbie Kamin’s food drive in the Fourth Ward neighborhood. Council Member Kamin is the Chair of the City’s Labor Committee and a key stakeholder for Sysco.

West Market:
Sysco Northern and Central California partnered with Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria for Operation Gobble in Los Banos, CA. Sysco volunteers and Assemblymember Soria distributed 500 Sysco-branded turkeys to Central Valley families. Sysco Northern California also sponsored an additional 1,000 turkeys to support families in need.

Sysco Riverside and Sysco GR partnered with the East LA YMCA for a holiday food drive in Riverside, CA. Sysco GR joined local leaders, including LA County Superior Court Judge Maria Lucy Armendariz and NBA legend Derek Fisher, to distribute Sysco-branded turkeys. The event received media coverage from NBC, Telemundo, and Univision.

Sysco Riverside and Sysco GR sponsored a community food drive with the Little Tokyo Service Center and California State Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez, donating 200 turkeys to families in need.


3/20/23 - Sysco PAC held a reception at the FY24 Annual Growth Summit in Houston, Texas. 
1/10/23 - Sysco PAC Representative attended an event for Maryland Governor-elect Wes Moore and Lt. Governor-elect Aruna Miller. They were briefed on Sysco operations in the state, including the start of EV work at Sysco Baltimore.

1/10/23 - Additional activities in Maryland included attending an event for Majority Appropriations Chairman Ben Barnes. Introduced Sysco to the Chairman as well as other attendees including Senate Budget and Taxation Chairman Guy Guzzone (Jessup Senator), Vice Chair of Budget and Taxation Jim Rosapepe (apprenticeship, workforce, cdl), House Majority Leader Marc Korman (transportation interest), House Majority Whip Jazz Lewis, Health and Government Operations Chairwoman Joseline Pena Melnyk, and Delegate Nic Kipke (sells paper products to Sysco).

12/05/22 - Sysco PAC Chairman Rob Howell and PAC Representatives met with Texas State Representative Greg Bonnen and Texas State Senator Joan Huffman. Dr. Bonnen is the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and Senator Huffman is the Chair of the Senate Finance Committee. They were updated on Sysco's business operations, the Sysco Driver Academy, and briefed on our support for increased state funding for CDL training in the 2024-2025 Biennial Budget. 

12/06/22 -Sysco PAC Representatives met with Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan. He was briefed on Sysco's position on Vehicle Miles Traveled "VMT" taxes and Sysco's overall business operations in Texas. 
11/09/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Senator Drew Springer. Senator Springer is the new State Senator for the Sysco North Texas site. He was given a briefing on our regional presence and an update on the Sysco Driver Academy. 

11/10/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Representative Terry Canales. Representative Canales is Chairman of the Texas House Transportation Committee. He was given an update on Sysco's Electric Truck project and our overall Texas operations. 
10/07/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Senators Kelly Hancock, Joan Huffman, and Charles Schwertner in Dallas. Senator Schwertner is Chairman of the Texas Senate Business and Commerce Committee which has jurisdiction over labor, workers' compensation, the electric grid, and supply chain disruptions. Senator Huffman will be the new Chair of the Texas Senate Finance Committee and her district encompasses the GSC. Senator Hancock is a strong Sysco ally and proponent of the Texas restaurant industry. Last Texas Legislative session, he sponsored the Alcohol to Go bill in the Texas Senate. All 3 were provided with an update on the business, Sysco's Electric Truck program, and on various issues relevant to their leadership positions. 

10/07/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Representatives Chris Turner, Charlie Geren, and Texas State Representative Candidate Kronda Thimesch in Dallas. Representative Turner is the Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and the Chairman of the Texas House Business and Industry Committee. Representative Geren is the strongest proponent of the Texas Restaurant industry, having sponsored several bills in 2021 to assist restaurants during the pandemic. Candidate Kronda Thimesch is running for Texas House District 65, which will now encompass Sysco North Texas after redistricting. All 3 representatives were provided with an update on Sysco's North Texas region and on Sysco's Electric Truck program. 

10/12/22 -The Sysco PAC Board of Directors met for their Third Quarter 2022 Meeting. 

10/14/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Representative Tan Parker in Houston. Representative Parker is running for Texas Senate in North Texas. He is a champion of the restaurant industry and a strong Sysco ally. Rep. Parker was provided with an update on the business, North Texas Region, and on a potential issue around noise ordinances and key drop deliveries.  

10/17/22 -
Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Senator Brian Birdwell in Austin. Senator Birdwell is the Chairman of the Texas Senate Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee that has purview over the Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) and on various economic development programs in the state. He was briefed on Sysco's Electric Truck program and our recent application to the Texas Clean Fleet Program through TERP.

-Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Senator Paul Bettencourt in Houston. Senator Bettencourt is the Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Government and serves on the Senate Finance, Education, and Criminal Justice committees. He was provided with an update on the business and the Sysco Driver Academy. 

10/19/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Representatives Sam Harless, Tracy King, and Charlie Geren in Austin. All 3 Representatives hold various leadership positions in the Texas House. They were provided with an update on the business and briefed on Sysco's Electric Truck Program. 

10/25/22 - Sysco PAC Chairman Rob Howell and Representatives met with Texas State Representative-Elect Mano DeAyala at the GSC. Representative-Elect DeAyala is the newly elected State Representative for West Houston. He was provided with an overall briefing on Sysco's history, our operations, and current Texas legislative priorities. 

10/24/22 - Sysco PAC Representative attended event hosted by PA Senator Gene Yaw, Majority Chairman for the Environmental Resource and Energy Committee.  Touched on Sysco's work around electrification.

10/26/22 - Sysco PAC Representative attended event hosted by PA Representative Ed Neilson, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, Member of the Climate and Labor Caucuses and very close with the labor unions in Philadelphia.  Introduced Sysco to the Rep and touched on some key initiatives like electrification, workforce and general Sysco footprint in the Philadelphia region.

9/19/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Representative-Elect Carl Tepper and State Senator Charles Perry. Both elected officials represent Sysco West Texas in the Texas Legislature. They were given an update on the site's operations, the Sysco Driver Academy, and Sysco's Electric Truck program. 
8/10/22 - North Texas Region President Chris McCool and his leadership team hosted U.S. Congressman Jodey Arrington and the Offices of State Senator Charles Perry and State Representative John Frullo at Sysco West Texas. Guests were provided with a regional briefing, as well as updates on Sysco's customer support initiatives. 

8/24/22 - South Texas Region President John Miller and his leadership team hosted Texas State Senator Donna Campbell and several elected officials from the City of Schertz to celebrate the Sysco Central Texas expansion project. The site was recently nominated for the Texas Enterprise Zone award and this event was held to commemorate that occasion. 

8/25/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Texas State Senator Brandon Creighton. Senator Creighton is the Chairman of the Senate Higher Education and Education Committees and a leader in the Texas Senate. He was provided with information on Sysco's workforce development initiatives and the Sysco Driver Academy training programs. 
7/11/22 -The Sysco PAC Board of Directors met for their Second Quarter 2022 meeting.

7/11/22 - Sysco PAC held a Summer Reception at the Sysco GSC featuring a conversation with Texas State Representatives Senfronia Thompson and Jim Murphy. 

7/19/22 -Sysco PAC Representatives met with Janelle Perez, candidate for Florida Senate, and A.J. D'Amico, candidate for Florida House, in Miami. Both candidates were briefed on our company and issues specific to the Sysco South Florida region. 

7/20/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Kevin Cabrera, candidate for Miami-Dade County Commission, and Juan Porras, candidate for Florida House, at Sysco South Florida. Both candidates were provided with a regional briefing and a tour of the facility by our Sysco South Florida leaders. 

7/20/22 - Sysco PAC Representatives met with Florida State Representative Juan Fernandez-Barquin in Miami. Representative Fernandez-Barquin is a leader in the Florida House and will be instrumental to our efforts on workers' compensation reform and future electric truck deployment in Florida. 
6/21/22 -Sysco PAC Representatives met with Mano DeAyala, candidate for Texas House District 133 in West Houston. The GSC is located in HD 133. Mano was briefed on our company and customers. Sysco PAC Representatives also informed Mano about our Driver Academy and current challenges with the Texas DPS CDL Skills Testing Program.
